“HARO pitch” is ~250 searches a month. Most of those people have already missed a deadline once.
The subject line
This is bad:
HARO / MoneyLion — expenses that hit after the last paycheck (Paw Vej, COO, Financer.com)
The journalist already knows it is HARO. They already know the outlet. They do not need your full name in parentheses.
This is better:
Financer.com COO on expenses that hit after the last paycheck
Other shapes that work when they are true:
What actually happens to bills after payday — Financer.comA COO on the week between paychecks
Lead with who they are in one credential, then the topic in English. Under 70 characters when you can.
The body
Greeting with their first name. One line on why this person is allowed to speak. Then the answer — the point first, one number or story that is actually on the record. Sign off as the author.
Do not:
- Recap the query
- Offer “happy to hop on a call” unless they asked
- Invent a customer
- Send the same skeleton from two people at the same shop
Attachments and AI
If they said no AI commentary, do not send a polished essay with no recording behind it. If they want a quote, send a quote. If they want a 1,000-word interview series, that is a different product — decline it if the author does not do those.
